why is it that all the most popular posts on tumblr
are written like this
with no capitals
and no punctuation
i just really want there to be a popular and grammatically correct post on tumblr
I think the majority of Tumblr’s dialect (is there a word for a written dialect? Hardly anyone speaks Tumblr.) comes from influence within the tag system.
My theory is that the lack of capitalization is stylized, ironic laziness (same reason as the increasingly popular use of abbreviations such as idek and ikr, and particles like desu), whereas the punctuation stems from the tag system, where commas split up tags. So, “this is like, so totally cool” would be tagged “this is like” “so totally cool.”
With commas struck from the tumblr blogger’s arsenal, they rely on run-on sentences and other means to show emphasis. One such means, spacing, is another quirk influenced by the tags. If you repeat a tag, it will only show once, which is why you get “really r e a l l y weird things like this.”
Also common on Tumblr are people who show their enthusiasm through their text by pretending their haNDS ARE FRKEAKIGN OUT AN D THEY CANT TPYE OMFGGGG. This adaptation is actually pretty cool, I think, as it serves to communicate tone across a very toneless medium.
Did you hear that noise? That was the sound of my desk breaking. My linguistics boner just snapped it in half.
Well of course the men don’t get sympathy. No one gives two shits about anyone who isn’t either very young, very old, or has a vagina. Whoever made this poster knew this, and knew that women, children, and senior citizens would be the only groups that would tug at everyone’s heart strings. At least they were decent enough to include the men in the total. Men are basically worthless, but at least they can use them to inflate the numbers when it serves them, am I right?
If we think about this logically, roughly half of all children and senior citizens are male meaning that, at a guess, 83 of the 104 Palestinians killed were male. (Considering the overwhelming majority of adult male victims, it’s quite possible that the majority of seniors and children killed were also male. We don’t know, so we opted for the conservative estimate.) Even if we presume that every single child and senior citizen was a woman, that’s still 54 adult male casualties to 50 casualties from every other group: women, children, seniors. But who gives a shit, right?
We can’t even get a really meaningful estimate for injuries because women have been lumped in with senior citizens (how’s that for “empowerment”, eh?). However, adult men alone made up 42% of the casualties and presuming that half the child victims were male that alone puts us at 58%.
This is basically another example where violence against men is more or less ignored even though they make up the majority of the injured and dead. Who cares though, right? Men are supposed to die on the job to protect the women and children. They served their purpose, so why should we even bother to feel sympathy, let alone properly recognize them in the statistics.

do you ever just watch the first episode of your favorite show again and look at how plain and simple everyone is before character development sets in and terrible shit starts happening to everyone
always
